Man, I hope once and for all these rumors are true. The phone market has gotten extremely crappy. Even Sony and Nokia are making mostly ugly-ass phones. Symbian has gotten out of control. Really, in my opinion, the only interface that isn't awful is Motorola's (which I used to hate) and the only phones that aren't butt-ugly are the SLVR and that new black slim flipphone under Sprint.

As other posters have said...they practically announced it during the last financial anaylyst conference call.
There will be a phone released. No question about that.
The questions are:
- when?
- features?
- will apple do it themselves or seek joint partners?

If the Android phones are being tracked at every minute, then why couldn't they find my friends' phone that was stolen out of her desk at her workplace?

Why does everyone want Apple to change the enclosure of the MBP when it's already perfect?

If this is true, and does come out on Aug. 7th, I'll be saying farewell to my New Sidekick 3.

It should be free. Further lock people into this ecosystem. Besides, the future is in the cloud...
You've said the magic words Friscohoya. "Lock". Unlike Google's web initiative, Apple making MobileMe free can only benefit iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad apps and the Mac community.
I still think there should be a paid version for heavy duty users that want a better performing iDisk and more cloud features. But the masses would be happy with lite versions of what we have now sans the cost.
People need to remember that Apple is building an NC datacenter...no make that a HUGE NC datacenter. It is so large that it defies logic as to what they're going to do with it. Current MobileMe subscriptions cannot explain why this datacenter is 500 thousand sq ft.
I expect that we're going to see Lala style music streaming from this dc. Free MobileMe is likely and other cloud services.
Good article on NC datacenter with pic (http://digitaldaily.allthingsd.com/20100222/thats-apples-new-data-center-wheres-the-giant-glass-cube/)

I woke up and checked this thread just to see if all the people who really think it's two woke up and realized it's not 2 its 288.
I should have known that wasn't going to happen. All that happened was another 2 pages . What an EPIC thread :D

Yikes. It'd take me 1.13 hours. Maybe you can get a friend to call you and start reading off ones and zeros?
LOL, that might just make it into my sig one of these days.
Clearly, new "iPod socks" will be released on Tueday. Aren't we overdue?
Agreed on the grammar correction...it should be "has".
Personallly, I would love a tower. Mainly because I want a separate monitor...and a 20" iMac won't fit on my desk, but a 20" Apple display will. I'm buying some computer on Tuesday- so I'm excited either way. Thank god for a $3800 credit limit. I would love a machine that could record from my tv, although that would conflict with iTunes selling tv shows.

Excellent. Now it's time to wait for the sub-$2000 "Pro" desktop announcement. There's a suspicious gap in their lineup. Mac Pro Cube (http://macprocube.com), perhaps?

The real influence the cellphone companies (at least, the ones not stuck in the 1980s as far as their network infrastructure goes) have on phone purchasing is the ability to subsidize phones that fit their model.
The fact Apple can't expect carriers to subsidize their phones is one issue they have to deal with.
NEWS:
November 23, 2006 CNN
NEW YORK (AP) -- Cell phone owners will be allowed to break software locks on their handsets in order to use them with competing carriers under new copyright rules announced Wednesday.
Given the above news, NO cellphone company may soon be subsidizing ANY phones.

So I've played with the TomTom iPhone Car Kit for a couple of days and here's my initial observations.
* I do not like the bluetooth speaker phone built-in for phone calls. It is far inferior to my BluAnt, but luckily it seems I can have both connected and easily switch back and forth.
* Lastly, this is the thing that may make me return it...it rattles, as it is not built very well!! Where the car kit spins to landscape, it is just a little too loose of a setup. Does everyone else have this problem or do I have a defective unit? Would love to know if its worth bothering to exchange it. Thanks!
I had two different TomTom iPhone Car Kits that I returned because of the bluetooth speaker phone. It would keep breaking up and I was unable to hear all of the other party's conversation. I had mine in the vertical position so I did not notice any rattle. I have ordered the Magellan Premium car kit which from early indications performs better for the bluetooth and positioning.

I welcome this idea. Intel is a disgusting anti-competitive company that cannot play fair. Apple is forced to use Intel's chipset and IGP instead of Nvidia which may have lead Apple to a decision like this. ARM is the future as is iOS, so like it or lump it. The low end Macs would probably have ARM and others both ARM and Intel. I would also welcome a switch to AMD.

Of course Verizon will wait two years before they decide to adopt it into their lineup.
Ha! Verizon will NEVER carry it.
Anyway I'm on verizon and its been nothing but problems with them for the past year or so. Their 'can you hear me now' network has turned into the 'what? hello? HELLO? *click*' network. I'll be happy to switch if the new phone is not on verizon.
I'm pretty happy with VZW service. Their phones are lousy and crippled, but after trying every other provider, VZW was the only one who had almost perfect service in NYC, and I need reliable service more than I need a shiny phone.

Could "Conroe" ever make its way into a Mac Mini? Or would it just cause the mini to melt into a metalic puddle on the desk?
If they made it a little taller it should be easy-peasy for Apple to fit the necessary cooling. Hey, if they're making it taller, they could add a 3.5" Hard Drive which is much cheaper than laptop hard drives and we could finally get a 500GB Mini.

Yes, let's not change it because YOU actually have a feel for the numbers.
Yea, it's not just me who has this "feel" or comfortability with the numbers. Anyone raised in the system does...
I do believe that the feel for the numbers and the familiarity of the units is perhaps the strongest reason why it is still around....

Because it's rapidly becoming the case that EVERYTHING can be produced more cheaply in places like China and India -- even things that were previously thought to be "safe" industries (medical X-Rays are read in India / China, legal documents are authored overseas and sent back to the US to be signed) because they required and educated or advanced workforce.
So, I turn the question back to you -- how will you afford to buy an iPod when you are asked to take a substantial (50% or more) pay cut because an individual in India or China can do YOUR job more cheaply.
Globalization is a race to the bottom, and nobody seems to understand that while the 3rd world rises up, the 1st world inevitably must slide down.
And then the price of labor in those producing countries will rise. Then return to other countries. it cycled back and forth.

I wonder why Apple gives a hoot? This couldn't be hurting them could it?
It makes no difference. For starters, Toyota is violating the User Agreement. That in itself is grounds for immediate rejection. Second, it sends the wrong message. You want to do business with Apple, it has to be above-board. This should be obvious.
