Well, that was a nice 8 hours wasted....
I loved it. Portal is one of those events in computing life. I never game these days except for Portal, Katamari, and UT99.

Carbon fibre just won't look as good as aluminum.
I really hope that they get it in gun metal grey one day though. Some colour variety would be great!

Apple really need to add better dual screen support. [ ... ]What they need to do is extend the menubar onto the second screen, and allow the option to have the "main" part of it, being the one with the App's menu items appear on the screen that the app is active on.
Also support for the dock to appear on a different screen to the menubar.
It would be very handy to have the menu items on one screen, and my menu icons and time (spotlight, bluetooth, time machine, etc.) on the other.
Uhhh... it already does this. At least since Leopard. When you pull up the display pref screen, physically grab the little menu on the screens you see and drag it to the display you want. Similarly, you can choose the position of the dock, which indirectly chosen which screen to put it on...

wtf is exactly what i've been saying for a while.
I hate to think that Apple intentionally leaves these issues unaddressed so that you fall for the idea that "maybe the iPhone 5 will run current software better".
But that's exactly what they do. They leave these goose eggs to annoy the user who notices such things, who are coincidentally the same people who will buy a new iPhone to fix lag issues.
I've owned every iPhone, and every new iPhone running X.0, runs beautifully, only to be slowed down and negatively effected by every single interim update.:)
so, have you ever owned a computer before? because thats the exact same thing that happens to any OS ive ever worked with. the more that is added to an OS, the slower it gets. the more a machine/device is used, the slower it gets.
such is life. wipe it and see if that helps. or look for a phone that runs on Unicorn Powder, im sure it wont have this problem.
OMG LOL Unicorn Powder ....more more

I've been waiting 3 weeks to buy a MBP assuming at least that iLife 07 would be announced today. Yet iLife 06 is still in the apple store..ARGH. Absolutely no computer announcements. This is extremely frustrating.
I'm really disappointed with these annoucements. Where's the stuff for their computers? Leopard? iLife 07? It just seems like they're pushing into every aspect of the market as quickly as possible. A business is like a tree...ignore the roots, and it'll die. Not that I'm saying Apple's going anywhere, but there a lot of disappointed people.
It just seems ridiculous that they would only announce Apple TV and the iPhone, and nothing else! There's really nothing for anyone - every single person in that room, watching Jobs give his Keynote, without a doubt, has their own phone in their pocket.
The iPhone doesn't offer anything new to an already saturated market. If we wanted to look ahead at developing cell phone technologies, one quick glimpse across the ocean and we'd see it all in Japan. In Tokyo, their phones are their train tickets. One swipe of the cell phone over a reader and you're sorted. Internet and music is old news for them, as it is for most of the world. And a touch screen? Now there's a problem waiting to happen.
2 thumbs down for Keynote '07. Bring on Leopard and iLife '07! Satisfy your computer consumers!

First I wasnted to thank everyone who has posted advice and comments about my temple surface piercing.
So with the help of the advice from the people in this forum, regaurding finding a new piercer and swap out the bananabell for a surface bar for my anti-brow temple piercing.
I did a little research about surface piercing and what causes them to fail
(which I should have done first before getting pierced, but anyways)
I noticed today that my piercing wasnt exactly happy, a bit tight, so I went down to a more local piercer in Mountain View, CA at Fatty Zone to get a check up to make sure everything was fine. The piercer was out for the till Monday, but the owner said that it looked as if the lower ball was starting to get sucked in. (great) He recommended that I go down to Pierce Ink, where he had sent his piercer (From Fatty Zone) to get trained.>>(Seperate Note) I had stopped in earlier that week and talked to the piercer about piercing my webbing, he said no, and took the time to explain to me why he would not pierce it and why it isnt a good area to pierce. For him to say no, refuse my money, and inform me, I am very grateful for.
I went down to Pierce Ink in San Jose CA, as I pulled up everyone was having a smoke, and we chatted a bit about my piercing, surface bars, gauge, and Zebra Tattoo and Piercing.
As it turns out I was the third person that week that had a surface piercing done at Zebra and came down to have their piercing salvaged because Zebra used the wrong jewelry. I also heard horror stories reguarding botched tounge piercings (personal horror story of one of the piercers who had it done at Zebra) , cleanliness issues etc. Anyways, I got the bananabell swapped out of a surface bar with discs.
http://homepage.mac.com/neildmitchell/Piercing_Update.jpg
The piercer(s) were very helpful, knowledgeabe, and professional, they too will also refuse to pierce certain areas.
So anyways, I salvaged an almost botched surface piercing. I still have a long healing process, so we will see if it gets rejected eventually or not.
1) Dont get pierced on a whim, from any old place, do your research (jewelery, techniques, reputation)
2) If a piercer tells you NO and explains why, trust them, dont go running off to a piercer who will pierce you where others wont.
3) Slam bad piercers or piercing businesses
4) Promote the Good Piercers
Save people from getting bad pierce jobs (or worse), and keep good piercers employed.

I can't wait to hear about all of your fun ideas for tracking someone who's only 60 feet away. :confused:The 60 foot range limitation doesn't make this exploit pointless, as many in this thread have implied. The technology allows tracking of people who are known to pass certain points, like the doorway of a building or along a certain jogging path. Since the tracking can be automatic, the "spy" doesn't have to be personally within 60 feet of the "victim". Instead, the victim need only pass within 60 feet of any of the surveillance sensors the spy has planted.
So it's reasonable to make the point that this technique wouldn't be worth the trouble because other methods of tracking people are at least as effective and have larger ranges, but it's less reasonable to say that Nike tracking is of no concern because people can see other people when they are 60 feet away.

It's a rather big of, though. Sure there seemed to be a lot of reports early on... but the system has been out for over a year now, and the hardware being sold now isn't the same as it was at launch.
Personally, I haven't heard much about system failures beyond the launch systems. It's unlikely more of launch systems failed then didn't. I have a launch system myself, and the majority of 360 owners have not had problems.
I would disagree, nearly half of the people in my friends list have been through at least 2 boxes, some as many as 4 and 5.
A lot of them I met online, and so it is mixed throughout the country. These things have issues.
Besides it is frickin loud and hot. The drive is loud and screws up discs randomly. There have been quite a few red ring of death posts and articles around the net even within the last few months. The problems are still there.

Just a thought, not sure of the url.
http://events.apple.com.edgesuite.net/sep_2006/event/
Is this a typical url for apple.

Yes, that's totally normal for Apple. They had a decent-sized investment in that company (Akamai) at one time.

If you don't like the rules of your job, then quit. Otherwise suffer the consequences.
Oww that's so cute, you actually believe that all those workers in china that work for Apple are there by choice and can just quit and get another job somewhere else. Trust me you would not work in thier conditions.

Let me just sum this up in advance:
Apple sues someone: "They are protecting their IP/trademarks."
Someone sues Apple: "They are bleeding money and need an Apple handout" or "Patent troll"
Usually this is followed by someone with a 'shareholder' remark since they somehow believe that owning 7 shares of Apple should get them a direct line to the CEO.
Ut-oh, I'm not conforming to the groupthink... here comes about 40 'hater' comments.
Big difference Nokia is not suing to protect anything they are looking for money and at the same time kissing MS back end. They have nothing but they figure what do they have to loose.

I don't know, looks to me like a Dell T5500 with no monitor and configured fairly close to the base Mac Pro costs $2962.00 after a $520 discount. Its three-year warranty is more like Apple Care. The processor is slightly faster and the RAM runs at 1333MHz. The Dell needs an optional FW card but doesn't say whether it's FW400 or 800. Also I didn't see a mention of optical sound.
BUT! It's a Dell. Look up the reliability of Dell workstations online and the decision to get a Mac Pro is a huge no brainer. Even several hundred dollars more for the MP's great chassis and Mac OS with the ability to run Windows 7 is still a great deal.

"Awesome" indeed. Incase Apple doesn't put anything up soon enough, this is what I've gleaning from Twitter. (No vouching for accuracy.)
Available June, $299 from App Store. Uncertainty as to whether other apps in suite are being sold separately or if they've gone the way of the Dodo.
Rebuilt from scratch. 64-bit, OpenCL, Grand Dispatch, Core Animation, Cocoa. Background rendering. Uses all CPUs.
Built for Snow Leopard. Scales to hardware. New, darker interface.
No transcoding.
Colour-managed. Resolution independence to 4K. Floating point linear.
Does lots of stuff on ingest. Image stabilisation, rolling shutter correction, audio NR, auto colour balance. Auto-detects people and shot type (long, med, CU). Non-destructively.
Big emphasis on metadata and keyword tagging.
Magnetic Timeline not sure exactly what this is from descriptions, but seems to be a new way to move stuff around on timeline. Compound Clips sounds like intelligent nesting. Inline Precision Editor for roll, slip, ripple, allows you to see outside of cut easily. Auditioning allows you to collect all your options for assembly and choose preferred later. Timeline Index.
Browser and viewer may have combined. Timeline tracks appear and disappear as needed. Can use keyboard for all functions.
One-click colour matching between clips. Retime by dragging. PluralEyes-like waveform-based autosync. Sample-accurate audio editing. Audio waveforms change in realtime.
Lots of questions remain...

. The folks that are already out of contract and willing to wait til Sept will be happy if it comes out in June, but having people stop buying phones from April to June is not what Apple wants.

That's good, seeing as how Netflix is completely unusable on Apple TV. I can't watch anything without it pausing to buffer constantly, and the problem seems pretty widespread (http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2616899). Works fine on my iPad from the same Internet connection, as well as from my TiVo. Netflix on Apple TV sucks.

The efficiency of the ads is not measured by how much you like the Mac guy or whether you prefer him to the PC guy but by how many Macs the ads sell. And I think the ads are pretty good at selling Macs. So more power to the Face of the Mac!!! (He's good for my stock...)
