Well, I just went to my local Best Buy. I had called them earlier when they opened this morning at 10:00 AM, and they said that they took about 20 preorders yesterday and were going to be taking preorders again today. I know, based on comments on this site, that they have a "loose" policy regarding the preorders (i.e., I don't know that they will stop taking preorders at any point), but my thinking is that if I am preorder #21, then I should get one on the launch day (since the report stated that each store would get "at least 45 iPhones" on launch day). I guess we will see, but this was at least as good of an alternative as ordering on Apple's site and not getting one until after July 2nd.
Anyway, I went in and got my preorder placed in a matter of minutes. In that short time frame, 2 other people came in to preorder as well! I told the BB guy that they will probably get a bunch of additional preorders today, since all other places are sold out.

Next time someone accuses you of something, ask what evidence they have to support the claim. If there is none, just ignore them and continue what you were doing. Then later if this IT person persists just ask if he likes his current job or would like to find one somewhere else. That should do the trick.

As part of its Q&A regarding location tracking posted earlier today (http://www.macrumors.com/2011/04/27/apple-officially-addresses-location-data-controversy/), Apple discloses that it is currently collecting "anonymous traffic data" from users' devices with the aim of providing an "improved traffic experience in the next couple of years".What other location data is Apple collecting from the iPhone besides crowd-sourced Wi-Fi hotspot and cell tower data?
Apple is now collecting anonymous traffic data to build a crowd-sourced traffic database with the goal of providing iPhone users an improved traffic service in the next couple of years. That traffic experience would presumably be built on top of a turn-by-turn navigation system separate from the Maps application included in iOS and driven by Google.
In November an Apple job posting (http://www.macrumors.com/2009/11/27/apple-to-take-iphones-maps-app-to-the-next-level/) described an iPhone engineering position that would help take Maps "to the next level". The company followed that up last December, with a set of four job listings (http://www.macrumors.com/2010/12/17/apples-ios-engineering-jobs-emphasize-navigation-software-experience/) seeking iOS engineers with experience in developing navigation software, further fueling speculation that Apple is working on its own navigation system.
On a broader scale, Apple has increasingly looked to beef up its own mapping and geolocation services in an attempt to distance itself from Google, which has provided the core Maps application for the iPhone since the device's 2007 debut. Apple acquired mapping company Placebase in July 2009 (http://www.macrumors.com/2009/09/30/apple-acquired-mapping-company-placebase-in-july/) and followed that up by purchasing small Canadian mapping firm Poly9 one year later (http://www.macrumors.com/2010/07/14/apple-acquires-web-mapping-firm-poly9/). Apple also moved its location services for iOS in-house (http://www.macrumors.com/2010/07/30/apple-moved-location-services-in-house-with-ipad-and-ios-4/) with the release of iOS 3.2 on the iPad in April separating itself from Google and Skyhook Wireless for such services.
Google has offered free turn-by-turn navigation on Android since late 2009 (http://www.macrumors.com/2009/10/28/google-introduces-free-gps-navigation-for-android-2-0/) and had hinted at that time that it could bring the service to iOS, although the company later backpedaled (http://www.macrumors.com/2010/04/23/questions-arise-over-googles-plans-to-bring-free-turn-by-turn-gps-navigation-to-iphone/) from those claims.

this doesn't contradict loop insight at all.
they said no iPhone 5 at WWDC. This is saying iPhone 5 is coming shortly after WWDC.

Now that I think about it, the post about the HD content taking up so much room is right on. I don't thing 120GB will be enough for all my HD episodes of jericho and enterprise. Much less all my other stuff thats on there.
You haven't heard about the upcoming proprietary 360 External 3.5" 750 GB HD from Microsoft? What's the price you ask? Well, if you have to ask maybe you should start looking into refinancing your house soon. Or get a second job. :D

I hope Apple isn't going to sell these movies at the same quality as their current video downloads.
As of now, the only thing they are good for are iPods; on a computer screen it looks terrible. Here here. They are even encoding HD 16x9 TV Shows in 4x3 - unbelieveable. For last year being the year of HD, the iTunes Store Video Encode Department apparently didn't get the memo. :( :confused:I, for one, dont think I'll ever download a movie off iTMS. I was downloading the 1hr + pilot for Psych the other day and that took forever... I'm only excited about the new 'Pods that are bound to be part of such an announcementMe too. Yeah that Psych Pilot was originally tranmitted in HD 16 x 9. So I was shocked to find when I opened it that it is in 4x3. An excellent looking encode. But the completely and lamely wrong aspect ratio. Really shocked me to find nobody caught that on the way in. Looks like the encoders never watch TV.

So you could theoretically build and conceal tracking stations all over the place and thus monitor these short-range transmissions. Wouldn't it be simpler just to hide cameras all over?
It would be much simpler to get a radio tracking system (like they use on wildlife) for like $500 and drop the transmitter in their bag, purse, tape it to their car, etc. You can do alot of things in theory. Practicality usually brings people to the easier means....

...and hope springs eternal. But I think this is a pipe dream. Apple is already breaking with tradition (if, in fact, the "no hardware at WWDC" rumor is true). And then there are those pesky "Apple has not yet ordered the parts for the iPhone 5" rumors that (if true) scream "delay."
The problem for Apple here is that they're gonna have to release something that matches or exceeds the multiple Android devices that are scheduled for release this year. I'm an iOS guy, and I love iPhones, but c'mon--the new Samsung Galaxy S2 is a sweet looking phone. And the Thunderbolt is killing at Verizon right now (or so I hear).
Apple has always risen to the challenge, and I look forward to their offering this year.
If I don't upgrade to an Android phone first. ;)

Also note that most owners of the company - i.e. most owners of apple stock - are institutions - and they use PCs! The owners of the company use mostly pc's not macs. Sure the management uses macs, but not the OWNERS of the company.
The owners are more concerned with the profits.
Ok I will relax now. thanks guys.

What would that have to do with the group of people who buy Mac Pros? They're not business people. They're primarily photographers and video people.
"What the shareholders use" is possibly the most irrelevant point raised in this thread.
Also, as has been pointed out, the iMacs are not that overpriced; especially given the cost of 27" IPS displays.
That said, people have always assumed cinema displays to be more overpriced than they actually were, if only because they weren't making like-for-like comparisons. It's less true now that LCD prices have been adjusted downwards after the price-fixing scandal, but a Dell 27" IPS display is still pretty expensive.
I'm not saying that doesn't have high prices - they do - but very frequently, people are not making a like-for-like comparison. Most notably in screens. I don't know of any iPad competitors that use IPS displays, and make no mistake: IPS displays are more expensive than the competition. Most people also don't care about display technology, but it matters to people in the photo/video field.

and then followed up torbjoern's comment of "it's not your country anymore"
I was referring to the EU... as in the European Union! I do understand that this might seem like xenophobia (which it isn't), but it's certainly not racist. Just because I don't want my country (nor any other country except Belgium) to be ruled from Brussels?! Are you drunk or something? Or don't you understand what it entails to be a member state of the EU? Geez, if I'm a racist or xenophobe based on my statement "it's not your country anymore", then there are no limits for what can be said about you.

Believe it or not, I've got the tech, but have been told to 'turn it off' already. Sod it though, my boss has just left and I've shut the office door... but now it's tea....
