WOW this is a major privacy breach.

This PROVES Apples an EVIL ENTERPRISE.

    THE WORST BY FAR!

So damn hypocritical - accusing Google, all the while they're doing the same damn thing behind the backs of their supporters.

Personally I was aware long before this article, but I refused to reveal it since Apple's minions would have thrown tantrums of denial.

While I don't like it, the fact is ALL TECH COMPANIES do this.

Privacy was a thing of the past, long ago. Don't kid yourself, if you've used a computer in the last ten years its already too late. The only "new" development is geo location.

    Welcome to the future, today.

I have no idea how this would be useful. Buffer times, connection loss, no WiFi around, these are all problems that will prevent this from working.

What's wrong with storing music on hard drives locally?

Well, a 3G connection is more or less the same as wifi, although its quite unstable.

3G in the UK is quite good in my opinion. I'll wait for the networks to come up with unlimited plans as they have been a bitch all these times.

Ok so in other words you DON'T need a Core 2 Duo to run Leopard, right?

Hell no, Leopard will run on G4s, G5s, Core Duos, Core 2 Duos, maybe even the old G3s but we'll have to wait and see on that one.

I still don't understand why nobody has managed to make a viable alternative to Microsoft Office, esp. Microsoft Excel. Apple's iWork is fine, but clearly not enough and of course there is no Windows version. Google is too obsessed with the cloud and ad thing and didn't make Google Docs a local app for Windows / Mac / Smartphones with Dropbox like cloud capabilities. :(

So Microsoft can continue to be fed with its Windows / Office monopolies for the foreseeable future.

because you don't take down an established company going head to head with one of their core products. your product will have to be a lot better to compete, and it will be too expensive.

if you want to win you need to wait for the tech cycle to change and take advantage of it. like apple did with the PC tech cycle giving way to smaller more mobile devices. give it a few years and they may start to replace PC's, but most likely will just live in unison

MS Office has so much features that no one person uses all of them, but the entire user base uses all the features.

Exactly. You should be able to CUT a file and move it. I bought an app in the Mac App Store that does just that...

    Should be built in.

That other thing that sucks in the folder view. I want folders first in A to Z, then files A to Z like in Windows... Not a default option....

So in other words it is a very minor missing feature, easily eclipsed by dozens of important features that are only found on a Mac.

Yeah, I posted that earlier - I want the proper matte anodised finish. But RED, not that trendy pinkish colour that's going around at the moment. Proper, primary RED.

I've got a special edition (RED) Motorola SLVR that you can see here: http://direct.motorola.com/hellomoto/red/

It appears to be made of the same anodised aluminium of the nanos and looks way cool. I love the way it looks - and yes, it's more of a burgundy that primary red. The darker colour grows on you, though - it's not garish but rather just understated.

Everyone comments on it - and it actually feels good to say that a percentage of my calls/text charges goes toward a worthwhile cause every month.

    :)

I doubt Apple will introduce new hardware at this photography show. OK maybe a C2D MBP but that is a minor upgrade, basically just a speed bump. You don't send out invetations to a "special event" and then anounce a "speed bump"

I think it will be software. First will be Aperture 2.0 that addresses same of the issues. Remember months ago when Apple disbanded the Aperture software team? What we will see on the 24th is the work done so far by the new development team. I expect to see some new ideas, better performance and better RAW processing.

But a special event just for one version release? They will have to have something else. A "One more thing..." item. My gues is a new software package. A l photo editor. I doubt Apple will try and compete with Adobe's CS2 or CS3 but they could take on Adobe's "Elements". or more narowly, PSE's editing abilty. There is room for a pixel editor that has a better user interfacethan Adobe. Apple could have looked at Nikon's "Cature NX" and how it uses "control point" and does not destructive editing.

Apple could also do something to make color managment simpler and easier. Wouldn't it be realy nice if the ACD had a built-in color measurement ability. Self monitoring. Or maybe an abient light color measurement so it would "know" if the room was lit with window light or flourecent. This kind of thinng would give people a reason to by ACD rather then Dell or whatever is cheaper. It wuld be revolutionary and worth of a "special event"

Thank you. Finally, a voice of reason among all the detritus in this thread.

I seriously hope you are right about a Photoshop Elements killer. That would be a perfect plug-in or part of Aperture 2.0.

Android is a huge rip-off of the iPhone, that's obvious. Very early Android was more like a RIM or Symbian-looking thing and when the iPhone appeared it quickly started copying the heck out of that.

BUT - when the iPhone introduced the world to full touch screen phones, how else could someone make the same sort of device without it being a lot like an iPhone? Menus, icons, applications, grids... none of this is exactly new...

I can't stand Android and the layer of pointless fluff like HTC Sense that gets in your way with useless graphical nonsense and widgets. When I got a Desire after an iPhone 3G I thought I had a killer phone and 'got one over on the Apple tax' and would enjoy 'mulitasking' and 'openess'.

For five minutes.... Then I realised iOS is far more usable - even though the Desire was way faster with its 1gz processor much of the old iPhone 3G felt slicker. It makes sense not to have a layer of crap over the basic OS. It makes sense to ration multitasking so the phone doesn't bog down. Music playing on Android is rubbish. The iPhone dock is cool.

That's not to say everything on Android isn't good - in some cases auto text reflow would be GREAT on Safari.

Apple should just ignore the Android cloners and continue to innovate- and offer stripped down slickness as Android gets more and more overwrought.

You do realize that a bare bones Android OS looks nothing like iOS.

No one else has yet mentioned that the Airport Extreme is currently reflecting a 1-3 week shipping period (http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore.woa/wo/1.RSLID?mco=B842E400&nplm=M8799LL%2FA), while the Airport Express (http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore.woa/wo/1.RSLID?mco=7D88DA55&nplm=M9470LL%2FA) still says it will ship within 24 hours on the Apple Store Online. It would seem that it is the Extreme and not the Express to be getting the update.

The reason for the 1-3 week delay in the Extreme Base Station is due to the new European regulations on certain chemicals going into effect.

Does this option in the iTunes7 intaller hint at the imminent release of the iPhone?
    http://idisk.mac.com/rnks/Public/iPhone-option.jpg

No, it doesn't. This is for phones like the ROKR and some other recent Motorolas that run a version of iTunes.

BTW this probably explains the nano firmware "revelation" too, we're probably looking at several applications (iPod, nano, ROKR, and other firmware) built from the same code base.

There are ways of walking on the moon. Doesnt mean its particularly consumer-friendly.

google seems to just keep giving me results that say either:

"send it to <insert generic dodgy address here> and i will unlock it"
    "you can't do it"
"you need an SPC code from the carrier."
    "you need a null cable"

my point is. you cant just walk into a SonyEricsson (or nokia, etc) store, buy a phone and say "im going to use this on xyz CDMA carrier"

That is still one display per output though.

If the monitors cannot daisy chain, you need a hub for the port(s) to which you connect multiple such displays.

Apple should produce a really light and small MacBook Air: 400 to 600 g and 7-inches. The Mac in your pocket. Always.

To the guy that on page 2 requested a 7600GT in the MBP's: Why? The X1800XT is gonna whoop it's butt, and ATI is way better at making mobile cards. Oh BTW, the X1600's were not underlocked. I saw a thread somewhere, that said they wouldnt run at full speed when not needed.;)

Merom MacBook Pro + Conroe iMac + speedbumped Mac mini + iTunes movie downloads + widescreen video iPod

That would be awesome. :) Add a larger capacity Nano to that.

New Apple Cinema Displays with glossy screens and iSights would be amazing.

Hmm... Maybe as an option? Glossy is great, but lots strongly dislike it.

    Wtf does that even mean?!

What's the idea of DUI checkpoints anyway? Can't police officers just pull over drivers they suspect of DUI if they catch them while on regular patrol? That's how it works here at least. Much less predictable and it negates the utility of the apps in question..

And the patrols just happen to be in the streets you'd use to get around the checkpoint.

App's like this could have a good effect as well.
Someone who not sure but knows they are close might check and know the chance of getting caught is high so they get a cab.
