I don't usually speculate, but I find it interesting "Showtime" is capitalized. Could the downloads be part of some partnership with the cable channel? Just wild speculation on my part.

    -p-

I doubt it, but you never know. "Showtime" as a phrase has been around a lot longer than the cable channel. But it definitely does emphasize this event as one that's centered around movies.

Because I am going to. I'm a completely safe driver (even when doing 90 or above) until I run into some dunderhead who has to enforce the speed limit themselves. Had that woman just moved like everyone else did, I would have never had to cut her off in order to punish her. And yes I did have to punish her, because she needed to be taught her dang place on the road.

    -Don

Sure, your entire post just screams at what a safe driver you are. :rolleyes:I bet if your parents saw a post like this they would take away your car. You are a menace.

EDIT: Saw your edit. If your mom is encouraging this type of behavior, neither one of you should be considered a safe driver.

Wow so if that's in XP already it's gotta be a feature in Leopard.

You call that Application Core Affinity or what's the correct full termonology? And where in the OS do you choose the applications to assign x number of cores with that dialog box. Looks like they're ready for a lot of cores coming up?!?!

    32. I'd say that's planning ahead.I think it might be in Windows 2000 as well. It's found via Task Manager under Processes. Right click on a process in the list and you can assign its affinity. Some programs crash when the encounter hyper threading or multi core machines. So you have to assign the process to a single CPU/core. More then likely on a dual processor machine from back then a multi-core one.

the ipod wasn't a ground up design either...

...now admittedly, it was apple, jobs and ives' that took a good idea and refined it to being the great product introduced in '03, but the ipod was an interesting break from apple's NIH syndrome. so much so that i question the TS report about apple going for a ground up design.

Wasn't the iPod introduced in late 2001?

    What is NIH syndrome?

    Thanks

The TV makes a terrible monitor for any other computer use, and I just don't want the computer in my TV room.
A current LCD or Plasma television with DVI or HDMI inputs can make an excellent computer monitor.

For example, the Samsung 46" and 40" LCDs are 1920x1080, with VGA and HDMI input. They are excellent monitors (we use them in some small conference rooms in lieu of projectors).

I think you're gonna get pretty disappointed. It wont't have blu-ray, likely no usb3, less likely that it'll have 2GBVram, the only way you're getting another hdd is to take out the optical drive, and it won't support 24GB of RAM.

I know I'll be disappointed if it doesn't come with that spec and I did add comments to the side reinforcing the fact I am realistic, but I would expect it to at least support 24GB considering there are Sandy Bridge mainboards that do support that while 1GB graphics is pretty standard now (well for PC).

2 internal HDDs and no i3 option is just wishful thinking though ;) While Bluray I can understand from an Apple stand point why it wont be an addition anytime soon.

However consider this, the last MBP release did surprise many with regards to the specs and performance. Many speculated it would be i3/5 and BTO would have i7 while the other main rumor speculated would not come with Thundercats or a 1GB Video card option.

Lately with regards to specs I think Apple are getting a little better with releasing competitive spec machines.

Kind of a huge gap, don'cha think? For an extra $100 I can nearly TRIPLE the capacity? Why would I even consider a 30 GB model?

Actually $100 is a lot of money. Especially if you don't need the capacity.

The main thing for me though is size. The difference in width is only a few tenths of an inch but the 30G is definitely slim and it feels pretty light in the hand. I'm not sure that's really the case with the 60G/80G. The iPod is primarily a portable device afterall.

I hope the Apple phone will be 3G. Is there any indication of this? Surely Apple wouldn't go with the old 2G technology.

Very hard to say, but 3G is not taking to the rest of the world very well, especially the US as they can't get 2/2.5G to work properly yet. This is about the only occasion when the UK really is doing well.

Yerba Buena's going to be a busy place on Tuesday...the American Chemical Society is having a meeting at the Moscone Center next week with over 12,000 people in attendance. I'll have a friend in town for the meeting, so maybe I'll snoop around YPCFA and see what's up. Maybe the walls are thin enough that I can just put my ear up to them...

Careful, Steve has them run 12,000 kv through those walls for Apple events.

AAPL is making a nice advance on this news, up about $2 this afternoon. Looks like the markets have been waiting for Apple to get into this business.

Of course you're meant to find it funny - it's a dead-set pi*ser of a story. I laughed for ages when I heard it.

Yes, but only because it really happened, there are tons of jokes out there just like it.

PS Chundles, do you know how to get from Europe to Syndey, at a low cost? (or from Beijing, after taking the Trans-siberian railway)

Apple's walled garden policy doesn't bring security to end user or has failed at that. Just take a look at Storm8 apps (dev is sued / spy ware). However, it allows Apple to full fill its destiny of being the big brother like in their 1984 spot... wait, wasn't it meant to be the other way around... hell, just tell me who will be the girl with that sledge hammer cause I'm sure it ain't Apple...

Obviously the images are copyrighted by Apple, and those images they don't want people using. Ok, well, that is their rights, they designed them and copyrighted them. Either they have to license those images from Apple (which I doubt Apple would do) or make their own. Just like every other copyright, you don't have the right to breech. If Apple doesn't defend their copyright, then they can lose it, so they HAVE to fight for it.

I don't think you understand the specifics of the situation. Go back and read it again.

There is just so much wrong with 100% of your post. I can't even begin, nor will I spend time, contradicting every sentence.

There is so much wrong with 100% of your comment above. I can't even begin, nor will I spend time, trying to explain why you're 100% wrong about me being 100% wrong.

In short, there is no war between Apple and Microsoft...nor has been for decades.

You either jumped on the Apple bandwagon after Y2K or you're a MS fanboy. Which is it?

Also, you think Apple is not a monopoly? Apple makes the hardware, the OS, the apps, and Appstore, and APPROVES what apps consumers can purchase. No...that's not a monopoly. No, sir.

Sony makes Playstation 2, the Playstation 2 OS, the Playstation 2 network, and APPROVES what can or cannot be done on the Playstation 2 network and to some extent, APPROVES what games consumers can or cannot play on Playstation 2.

Therefore, based on your logic, Sony is a . . . MONOPOLY!

    Let's do another one:

RIM makes the Playbook, the Playbook OS, the Playbook apps and Playbook app store, and APPROVES what apps consumer can purchase.

Therefore, based on your logic, RIM is a. . . .. MONOPOLY!

No no, I do get it. If anything its a very fine line or grey area. Not everyone has unlimited data and not everyone can get unlimited data. You also ignored my statement about AT&T actively going after the heavy data users even on unlimited plans. Also, your issue is that your wanting people to "change" well before its really time do do so. I'm always up for the latest and greatest. Please, don't be wrong on that. I spend a lot of money on tech. However, the key crutch here is cellular data and bandwidth charges. Cellular data is not where it needs to be in terms of stability and coverage. Also, not all WiFi hotspots are all that great. I've seen instances and lot of them where cellular data was faster then the hotspot. Then again, there is bandwidth usage. Until the carriers can come up with a non-gouging pricing model...especially on not so reliable connectivity, its not time to quickly do away with local storage. or physical media.
i didn't ignore anything. i stream pandora all the time when i'm on the go and while i'm at the house. my work has wifi so i just connect to that and my house wifi while i'm there. I have a buddy here at work that streams netflix and tons of other stuff but refuses to connect to wifi. he uses close to 10gb of data monthly and has still not received any message from AT&T.

My point is there are a lot of people that just don't connect to wifi when they are around it free, they just rely on their cell service instead. The reason i connect is bc when i'm looking online it's quicker internet wise then the 3g.

I'm not wanting anyone to change. but you're arguing that this service isn't great...when in reality it's just not great for you.

I like to live minimally....so having a dvd collection or cd collection of physical media does not interest me. Apparently, others think the same way or the cloud service would not exist. The service is not for you. Go back to ripping cds to your local storage device and making play list after play list and sync all ur music each time u want a variety.

Many people are the same way with books. My MIL has like 1,500 books in her house and just sees no value in a kindle and all that it provides.

I get it, people enjoy their "stuff".

ah yes. just like they did with the eMac back in the day. that was popular... you know, not having a product to ship for weeks.

Isn't that how they introduced the MBP in January? Announced at MWSF and then not shipped until sometime in February? (I think the iMacs shipped right away, which could be a good "hint" that they could get conroe....if you like that sort of a parallel.)
