Why would it be shared? There are 8 empty lanes so couldn't there be two x4 slots for TBs so both get their own?

You can get Thunderbolt SSD once the enclosures start to arrive in a month or two.

How many display port connections can be had (I know technically the Radeon cards can do 6)? I would imagine to do something other than display mirroring would require separate DPs (or usage of DP 1.2).

All we need is someone with a iMac to post up their System Profiler page showing the connection of the GPU/TB.

I think this is a good idea. Hopefully people use this app and after a few weeks of issues AT&T can review the data and start fixing the areas that have problems. I know several spots where I do not get service in DC and I plan on reporting those spots right away.

    Apple will soon be #1!

They already are in individual unit sales. But they will never be #1 in overall unit sales. Samsung, LG and others make too many different models and Apple can only make so many iPhones. They will always be #2 or #3 in overall sales unless they made drastic changes and given they are #1 in profit, I don't think they will. I think they are happy right where they are.

    I gotta ask:

What ever happened to "One More Thing"?

This keynote was kinda sad in a few ways, don't you think? I hope Apple is saving the coolest features still hidden at this point, like Steve pointet out... And Steve does look a bit ill...

I'd like to know if it will run on my last-gen 24 inch iMac (The cheaper 24 inch), before I commit. Portal 1 runs fine (without any fancy stuff).

Anyway, the whole idea of a FPS where you don't quite 'shoot', is brilliant IMO. Best game ever :)

When is Apple going to figure out how to implement software patches instead of forcing people to download a whole copy of the OS for every little update?

It's easier for them to do whole copies of the OS every time because people could go from iPhone OS 2.0 to iOS 4.3.3 if need be without having to patch to every subsequent release. It also cuts down on the risk of corruption.

My point exactly. Square institutions like Princeton and Yale are well known for, well, being square. It's no surprise a distinct minority of students there are Mac users (even if some of the rest are switcheurs). Take a walk around an Ivy League school with a student population in command of a more comprehensive understanding of aesthetics--Harvard, Brown, or especially Columbia with its boho-beat appeal--and you can't help but notice the difference. Students at these schools, unlike those at Princeton, are natural-born Mac users.

That, in short, is why it's wrong to paint all Ivy Leaguers with the same broad brush. You're not a bigot, are you?
Ahem. Anyone who says that Yale is "square" and Harvard is not has obviously never experienced the two colleges. And yes, I can say this because I am a Yale student who chose Yale over Harvard. Additionally, I really don't know what a "more comprehensive understanding of aesthetics" is, let alone what it has to do with mac usage. And, for the record, fully 35% of people here at Yale use Macs, and the large majority of freshmen I know who bought a new laptop got an MB or an MB pro. Also, I would argue that trying to paint Yale and Princeton with the same brush is also incorrect, and it is even more incorrect to paint Harvard and Columbia with the same brush. It is pointless to generalize ANY two colleges together, especially schools with such varying social, educational, and cultural philosophies.

EDIT: Oh, but don't take my word for any of this. I switched to Mac from Linux, so I guess I'm not a real Mac user.

I wouldn't touch Vista, not with the new "Bill's pocket protection schemes" put into place. The real big irony of these new measures?

I can actually pirate Vista without feeling any guilt now. Why the hell should my RETAIL version be eligible for only one machine transfer? What happens if my machine dies or I install it in a new VM?

It used to be that the OEM version is tied to the machine it comes with, and retail versions offers unlimited transfers. With this new scheme it is nothing but a money grab, plain and simple.

Here here. They are even encoding HD 16x9 TV Shows in 4x3 - unbelieveable. For last year being the year of HD, the iTunes Store Video Encode Department apparently didn't get the memo.

Until they come out with an iPod with a widescreen display I don't see the point. The display on the current iPod is small enough as it is. Unless they address this I can't see downloading any videos.

Is it as sporadic as it looks at 11am in my town? It does look like it could give details on any street, though. That would be better than the FM traffic or even the DOT/camera based traffic used for most things. Esp during road construction when side streets with no other data accumulation become thoroughfares for the summer.

Because it is crowd sourced, its information is only as good as the folks using the app. That is a huge downside, if you live in a rural area where not many people actually have smartphones (or in the case of Apple doing crowd sourced mapping an iPhone).

(I wonder, if you're a Republican, how likely is it that that charity is a not-for-profit that you own yourself that channels money back to the Republican party? ;)

Good point, but in all fairness, I think that's more a "sleazy-individual" trait as opposed to being attached to any political party.

Partisanship aside, America gives plenty to charity (and that's something we can all be proud of) but I wonder how much of that goes to the truly needy (because 'needy' is what I instinctively think of whenever someone mentions "charity"). I did some light digging and found that "National Vice President, Division Services" at the American Cancer Society earns $1,550,705.00 per year. Nice gig, huh?

And he's not the most highly paid. I found another cancer charity that pays their top guy over $4 million. Have a look yourself: http://philanthropy.com/premium/stats/salary/index.php?searchFoundations=&Year=2010

Ive just listened to the Major Nelson Podcast off iTunes about the new xbox elite, and the reasons they have launched it seem quite reasonable, and why they have done certain things seem quite reasonable.

How many people on this forum have got a 360? How many people actually connect with a wire, or a wireless bridge? Im connecting with a wire. The lack of wireless bridge doesnt bother me, the inclusion of the hdmi port doesnt really irk me that much, I connect to my Samsung HDTV via component cables, and the difference between the two is something that Id not be able to convince someone in an argument about which was better. The 120 Hard drive, fantastic, about time, and you can buy it separately, Yeah i know its expensive, but if you listen to Major Nelsons podcast you'll find out why, and you get a cable to transfer the contents from your 20gig hd to the new one.

After listening to an Microsoft employee, it doesn't sound bad. I wonder why? :D

My computer doesn't shut down like it's supposed to... It'll end up on a blank screen with an idle HD (the screen will dim, then brighten with input and everything)... long story short, I have to force-shutdown every time, but apparently with no ill-effects because I do so near the end of the shutdown cycle... idk

Anyway, I can't get the update to install. I get the flashing light, the gross noise, and two startup chimes, but no firmware updating. It simple restarts and prompts me to update firmware from the start. Help?

P.S. 15" Macbook Pro and logging out first doesn't help the no shutdown issue

i cant believe how low the world marketshare is after a good few years now of ipod halo etc etc...
I can. The iPod halo doesn't work without going hand in hand with the Apple Stores. If people are buying their iPods from shops that don't stock Macs, their opinions on Macs never change. If they buy an iPod from an Apple Store and see Macs all around doing everything their Windows computer can do and more, they become more open to buying a Mac next time a computer purchase comes round.

Apple need to open more international Stores if they want the worldwide share to increase.

I'm worried about Steve. Let's not forget he recently had cancer, and cancer has a way of popping back up when you think you've beat it.

    I hope he's okay.

Will it still be able to run on a 32-Bit Mac?

I have my doubts. Apple seems to have only mentioned 64-bit. That doesn't mean they can't or won't support 32-bit, but I suspect they look at this as their chance to drop old 32-bit technology. Internally it would mean that they wouldn't have to maintain 32-bit code. That would be great for their developers.

They also didn't mention the OS X requirements. Given the June release date I'm leaning towards a Lion (OS X 10.7) requirement which so far requires 64-bit hardware. Late June would be Summer and Apple has said that Lion will ship in Summer of this year. Releasing Lion 2-3 weeks after the big developer conference, WWDC, sounds aggressive, but Lion has been in developers hands for some now.

They should have add Wi-Fi, up the 400 Model to HDMI, 120GB Harddrive, then give the core 20Gb harddrive and Wi-Fi, and no HDMI. None of this werid 3rd SKU...still better then no Xbox 360 improvement, plus the kept the low end so I can buy what I want.

not going to search for the comment, which the comment i've quoted here was a reply to, but basically the commenter was saying how stupid it is for people to speculate on an unannounced, rumored product...

It was my comment. I was not commenting about the speculation in this thread, but rather commenting on the posters who essentially claimed that apple was the most unethical company based on some of the speculation in this thread. Speculation is okay. It's fun, and that's what macrumors Is for. I just found it hilarious that some took such an indignant moral stance on apple based on that speculation. That is what I found stupid, not the speculation.

it would make sense for an announcement to come at WWDC I highly doubt this. Apple was quite unequivocal that wwdc was going to be about the future of iOS and Mac os x. The one way I can see this happening is if its part of a much larger OS level push into the cloud.

Wow! Talk about amazing innovation. I think the ability to have 38 characters engraved on the back of every iPod Shuffle ordered from the Apple Online Store FOR FREE is amazing. Imagine being able to engrave your name and phone number for example:

    Return Reward Tom Jones 555.555.4093

    36 characters

Lot of incentive to buy online to get that free engraving to personalize every one of them. I love it. :)

Also find it amazing and innovative that the audio out headphone jack triples as a recharge and data port as well. Never seen a headphone jack do so much all in one before now.
