They'll change the key and force a firmware update on any airport express user who wants to update itunes.

That would break all properly licensed third party hardware.

back here in the UK Hoover were able to trade mark Hoover as their name despite the fact that hoover is the generic term for a vacuum cleaner!

Isn't "Hoover" the reason why the word "Hoover" became a generic term for a vacuum cleaner? The power of the brand name itself. Much like its common in the states to hear "Xerox" to describe a photo copier? Or to "Google" to search on the internet..

Or, Sallatape ( spelling ) for "sticky tape"...

I think the big problem with rentals is that Netflix has it wrapped up right now. You can get a ton of movies for a monthly fee, and I don't see any way an online service can compete with that, at least not without losing money on it.

If you know your best effort won't compare well to Netflix, does it really make sense to try and do it anyway? Or is it smarter just to stay out of such a cutthroat marketplace?

Netflix is great, but it's not ideal. They offer too few foreign movies. The wait times for new releases can be phenomenal and some movies that they should be stocking, they aren't.

The only real future for online movies is by renting them. I'd pay up to $3 per rental but have no desire to keep a movie. If I want to watch it again, I'll rent it again.

I'm still loving mine too :) I did, however, just put it up for sale on CL though. Just to see if I get any bites. I'm not going to worry if I do or don't sell it though. It's still an amazing machine

thought about doing that. or maybe a trade + cash for and "old" macbook. something that would hold be back to do bare necessities, save enough money for .........
maybe a high end imac. oh joy.

..nah screw it. i'll just stick with my mid-2010

The mockups always look real, but when the actual product comes out, it's wayyy cooler than the mockups. Look at the 5G iPods and its fakes.

Everyone seems to know that Apple is waiting to release a phone. It's only natural after all the success the iPod's doing.

As for when this phone comes out, It'll probably be Cingular at a "one more thing" event in october just like last year.

Gary. You just slowly and painfully killed me inside. I hope you are wrong.
Yeah it's not a MB or MBP even since it marks the debut of the all new PowerBook G5! :p

Don't give up hope yet. There are rumored Macs that could fit the bill. The iTablet or the iHome media Mac could "fit" within an iPod themed event....

Photokina is a photo convention. Not a computer convention.
So what? Last year alongside the Photo Plus Expo, Apple introduced Aperture, the quad G5 machines, and the last iteration of PowerBooks.

Plug in your iPhone, open iTunes, and in the SUMMARY window check the box related to backup encryption.

This is why the researchers published this, so people take action. Encrypt your data, it's your choice to do so. Encrypted = safe(r) than not.

**EDIT - And I'd be more worried about RFID in your bag of chips or RFID in the all the new tires that go on your car than a file you have the choice to encrypt. RFID in my tires, you can't encrypt that!

I think we all are getting caught up in the "core" crazy a little too much. I understand at a professional level the more cores the better. But Apple has delivered this target market its machine, the Mac Pro. I think the Mac Pro will see even more options in its configurations as time goes on, but I don't see them putting the next biggest and best chip in every product. After all, 90% of home computer users are using thier computers for basic functions and not heavy video or audio work, which means they don't need 4 cores. Apple is focusing on the digital lifestyle and this means they want to sell a customer hardware that will take care of this emerging market, like live streaming video rentals to their large screened LCD TV. I think the Mac Pro is the ever-expanding machine but look for huge price differences in its configs. An $800 difference in 2.66 to 3.0 GHz Xeon? All we do know is that Apple wants to rule the digital livingroom and probably is not concerned with bragging rights. But the obvious is true, there are some big steps ahead in processing power.

Honestly the term "app" didn't even exist 5 years ago. And yeah, it's super generic.

App has been used as short for application since the early 80s IIRC. It even has been in Dr. Peter Knittel's famous "how to translate Amiga software" correctly from English into German back then ("App(lication) = Programm").

I didn't need to hear it before. It was always generic.

Well, whether it is generic is a matter of opinion, that's what's being debated in this case. I argue that if it truly is such a generic term, there should be prior art demonstrating use of it before Apple came along.

I don't understand why the other companies have to use that term - why not just have the Android Store and the Windows Store? Seems like that would be less confusing anyway.

i love when big companies publicly fight like this. Dont really care about the actual issue, but the details are so interesting. The lawyers basically make it look like children are fighting.

It goes to show you what our legal system really is like. Kind of goes to show you that much of our legal system is nothing more than expensive babies fighting. Also goes to show you why our government is such a mess because guess what most of our political leaders are........ You guessed it LAWYERS. This is pretty much a world wide thing.

Not if you have UAC set correctly, although unfortunately it was weakened by default in 7, because of whining.

Explain how to set UAC up correctly to eliminate that issue with online games?

"Run as Administrator" sets the application to run with Superuser privileges. Turning UAC off sets the Admin account to run as Superuser without authentication so same security as XP.

That's not true. Actually last year Apple's overtook Oracle for the most security vulnerabilities. It just isn't worth as much to develop for.

Because the cumulative vulnerabilities of third party software such as Flash, Java, and etc included by default in Mac OS X inflate the count for Apple. Vulnerabilities are attributed to the vendor if included by default. Most of these third party softwares have worse security in Windows.

What type of vulnerabilities? Most vulnerabilities for any OS are not privilege escalation. Privilege escalation is rare for OSX.

Were they exploitable? Not all vulnerabilities are exploitable (~25%).

I would also prefer AMD, but I don't think there will be Llanos low-powered enough for the MBA.

Look at the Zacate E-350. It's 18W, and CPU-wise it's at a dual core Atom level.
OK, it's bulk 40nm, and Llano is 32nm SOI, but the quad mobile Llano I've seen is supposed to be 45W. MBAs are at 10W and 17W.

Llano is still a Stars+ core. Maybe next year with Bulldozer Fusion.

An important detail is that one needs to add the graphics TDP to those Intel numbers, so there's still hope for some Llano goodness.

It is amazing just how many times this same stupid comment has been made in this thread. Why do people have to regurgitate the same thing over and over?

Why is is sad a criminal dies while firing at a guard. Why is it sad a person who knows the consequences of carrying a weapon while attempting to rob a store? You play with fire and get burned. Nothing sad about it.

Kudos for the guard for protecting himself. He can sleep at night knowing he is not instead DEAD.

I'm with you. I don't understand these people that think there is NEVER any justification to take someone's life. This mentality is why the pirates off the coast of Somalia continue to harass and shoot up cargo ships. God forbid that the US crushes these vermin with superior fire-power. No, they are humans, and we are so enlightened, so let them shoot at us, take people hostage for years, and steal our ships and cargo. We are powerless to an gang of violent thugs because of our "moral superiority". More like a mental disorder to me.

    AMAZING!!!!!!
I'm very excited to see this come to XBMC. Cannot wait!

I'm confused... What will this give us in XBMC that we don't already have? Since I'm assuming you're running XBMC on Apple TV2, Airplay already works just fine...

From my iTunes library on my PC I can stream to my Apple TV2 in the bedroom, or to my Airport Express in the living room. From my iPhone, I can stream almost any app (Napster, Pandora, Netflix, etc) to either my AppleTV2 or the living room Airport express (audio only).

So, I'm confused what additional capability this is going to give those of us who have already invested in an Apple ecosystem.

Yes it's all willy-waving, which was in fact my point.

and to Mr Winters - you haven't met me before, that comment you refer to isn't one of mine. Also it's wise to be careful who you try to belittle with 'boy' references, you have no idea who I am or how experienced or qualified I am compared to you.

I don't know you. I do know that you have no idea what the Association for the Advancement of Cost Engineers and the Project Management Institute is. I do know that you have no idea what Certified Cost Engineer, Certified Forensic Claims Consultant, and Project Management Professional certifications are.

As ever, if you're new here, don't try to impress (or troll) by waving experience or qualification around to justify your opinion.

As I mentioned, Experience or Education isn't necessary to refute the post "Microsoft is DEAD". A 3rd grade education and a tad of common sense would tell you that..

We all know MS isn't dead when making 5.23 BILLION profits,

Obviously, WE all don't. My original post was not addressed to you but to Mr. BR Lawyer whose exact post was "Microsoft is DEAD"... Please go on though and tell me about how "WE ALL KNOW"....
