This (http://switchtoamac.com/site/apple-will-soon-announce-a-macbook-pro-revison-heres-why.html) an a good read on why we may see a MacBook Pro revision very soon.
Makes sense to me
Nice explanation with evidence on current and past updates. I'm now convinced that there will be a MacBook Pro update this year. Photokina sounds like the ideal venue.

Dumb stats that are irrelevant. I haven't read the whole thread but I assume some has done a comparison of iPhone vs htc. Any other stats are irrelevant

so many short sighted people in the thread. wow. if you don't think this is feasible, and importantly - sensible - you aren't thinking far enough. the future is ARM.
the whole "back to the mac" thing wasn't just for Lion. there will be a point where there is just one OSX, regardless of form factor. The only difference will be the UI layer.

Ok reading through this I see it is getting off track. The new release of Lion is good and stable, a few quirks but not bad, I am running it as my primary OS. Would be nice to see some intelligent posts on here in line with the topic.

No no no, we want useful UI improvements not iOS fluff.
So what part of 'iOS' fluff do Versions, Air Drop, Mission Control, Auto Save and Lion Server fit under?
'Useful' UI improvements? So what would you consider useful? Personally full screen apps, a native application launcher that can be organized, and resume are all useful to me. Get out of the mindset that just because it originated from iOS means that it won't be useful.

So do you think the best idea is to just cut everybody equally?
Did I suggest that? I think not. The problem we run into is that everybody starts screaming when you bring sharp objects anywhere near their precious fetish. We simply cannot employ reason and discussion until we can all agree that nobody will be pleased when we finish (even the bean counters will grumble).
Here's an example ...
I work at a university that is undergoing cuts. But some departments actually make the university money. Does it make sense to cut departments that generate income as much as departments that don't? At least the people in charge here understand the difference and aren't applying "across the board cuts".
Well, and we should have government operations that do that. The more non-tax income the government can generate, the less we all will have to put into it. Perhaps we can even figure out a way to partner government with the private sector so that both can profit instead of trying to strangle each other. At which point, we will have Shangri-La on GPS.

I can understand the intuitive justification of this argument, but I'd like to see something more rigorous before I accept it. My own intuitive sense is that learning measurement systems, while important to early child development, don't, in of themselves (i.e., imperial or metric), have a causal relationship with math and science success (or failure) in school. I think there are other much stronger factors to success in math and engineering. One example: "male malaise" in the UK and the USA (a general problem in elementary and secondary schools); also, public school math programs are not rigorous and set the bar relatively low.
Tell you what ..... you go and find 20 kids in grade 3 or 4. Teach 10 of them how to multiply 3 13/16" by 3, and then teach the other 10 how to multiply 96.8 by 3. Then see how many from each group decide to take up social work, or teaching history, becoming a ski instructor as a profession :D.

[B]But I don't think companies should be able to copyright overall aesthetic choices unless the two products are basically identical looking and intended to be sold as cheap knockoffs.
And the Samsung phones are not cheap knock offs, they're actually probably the best andriod phones on the market.
Wait, so they should be able to clone a competitor's product's industrial design as long as they don't undercut the competitor's price?

And still..... nobody knows if you can just buy a random off the shelf nvidia 7800 and plop it into this sucker.
my powermac g4 died, but can SOMEONE, just ANYONE go into their 'system profiler' and see if they have a list of all the compatible video cards? i seem to remember you could get some information like that in the profiler or some other such app. or if you're an elite hacker, open up terminal and go to /usr/x.org or wahtever it is and see if the nvidia drivers are there.
overall excited. definitely buying a 2ghz mac pro as soon as it's in the stores.

Who the hell at Toyota thought this was a good idea?? It was remarkably unprofessional of them to begin with.
You don't establish business relationships by breaking the other's EULA. This is frankly, shocking from a company such as Toyota.

That's like saying that I need to read the whole Bible instead of you just telling me why you're a believer.
That's all we're asking. Just tell us why you believe something to be true.
If you inspire us enough, maybe we'll crack open that Bible.
A better analogy would be a scientist trying to explain to a Christian scientist why evolution makes more sense than a strict interpretation of the Bible. Or Galileo (was it him?) trying to convince people that the Earth revolved around the Sun.
By the way, speaking of being convinced, I looked back on some of my posts from 2008 and can't believe the crazy things I believed back then. Nobody took my aside and explained things to me. I went and found sources on my own. I don't know how to explain a lot of different concepts that hinges on each other that will be utterly convincing in 100-200 words. It took me a few years to unlearn all the crap I learned in economics classes in college. I can't do the same for you in a few minutes.

I've been running Sophos (the real version, 7.2.3, not this new free version) for years and years and years and never had problems with it, and yes I'm a Mac user, and yes it has detected files with problems. So the stick-your-head-in-the-sand approach advocated by some here seems silly.
1) I have no problems with my Time Machine backup at all, ever. However mine is a USB backup and not airport, and it isn't a Time Capsule. Perhaps those impact whether it works well or not. So just saying "It doesn't work with Time Machine" as some have stated here, is not accurate.
2) Someone way back in the thread mentioned that their appearance settings randomly reset. Interesting. I have been having this problem for months (appearance and trackpad settings randomly resetting to default) on my Macbook Pro. I've trashed prefs, and done all the other usual things one does when wacky things happen. Yet it still happens, seemingly randomly. I'll keep an eye open for whether Sophos is doing something when that happens. Perhaps that's the cause I've ben looking for!

So you want Apple to be forced by the government to reduce its manufacturing, tell its customers "sorry, no iPad for you" because the competition needs to catch up? How stupid is that?
Sadly, that's what happens in South Korea.
Which is the reason why the world has to put up with Samsung.

yes it is.
Anyway, you don't need an email address, just an account (username/password).
No its not, go here:
https://myinfo.apple.com/cgi-bin/WebObjects/MyInfo.woa
Login with your current appleid, click apple id and change it to whatever you like. If you, like me, had a separate itunes and mobileme account you can change you emailadres here aswell to the mobilme-email account. Now you get your itunes mail on your mobileme :)

5 megapixel seems unrealistic for a cellphone camera right now, but it would sure be nice, I have a 1.3 megapixel camera on my phone, just because it's 1.3 megapixels doesn't mean it's good quality, how do we know that the 5 megapixel camera will be any better? could be as grainy or worse as a low end VGA/megapixel camera :( but knowing Apple, some people will pay a shiny red cent for high quality camera anyways (esp Apple fans)
I disagree for inability to do texting, say if you are in a different country, where it costs say $3/minute just to call someone, or 50c just to send a text message (receiving is usually free), big difference if you just want to send a message of "I'm at the door" or "I'm leaving right now", I'm currently paying for long distance since I'm in a part of Canada that is not my home region, any time someone not from the area I'm in calls ME, I pay for it, and any time I call someone from home, I pay for it as well, so text messaging has really cut down on bills, I don't go over my minutes as much anymore with texting, since 90% of my calls were 1 minute or less calls, so thats where text messaging comes in handy. Although I would rather use a blackberry-like device with free email (if there was such thing, or have an email-only plan that doesnt require a data plan, like text messages)
y not? there are already 6 mega pixels camera phones

Windows 8 being available on ARM platforms would make this move, albeit a bold one, pretty viable.

2012 could easily mean EARLY 2012. That would put the Verizon and AT&T phones on the same release schedule and also set a new precedent for revealing/releasing iPhones in the 1st quarter, WWDC focuses solely on software and operating systems, and the iPad being released in the 3rd/4th quarter (if the iPad 3 rumors pan out). And don't think for a minute that AT&T won't alter their upgrade eligibility dates to let people whose contracts expire this summer (without the release of a new iPhone) upgrade in 2012 for a subsidized price. They're doing everything they can to keep people from jumping ship.

Not a summer update? Surprising.
Most of September is summer (in the Northern Hemisphere, anyway), you know. Just the last week and change isn't. :)

MobileMe doesn't even work right now... how would they ever support way more users?
If you read, they said after a certain facility goes on, supposedly the new NC data center. It is very likely that there'll be a brand new version of MobileMe launching with it, along with iWork and Lala.

Thanks for alerting me to this. I had no idea that Macrumors took up GBs of my bandwidth cap. :p

This thread is hilarious. Take a calculator and enter the numbers the exact way they are in the OP and you'll only get one answer... On any calculator. If you think you're smarter then a calculator.. Well I have nothing to say to you. Just... Good luck to your ego.
Answer is 288.
I inputed it exactly like this in my calculator and I got 2. So...
Edit: I voted 2 because I thought of it as 48 over (/) 2(9+3)
But written as 482(9+3) I would say 288...
Strange.
