You should tell that to my son. Oh wait, you can't, he was murdered someone like you.

Is that really true? A drunk driver killed your son?

AMD E-350's CPU is noticeably worse than the C2Ds in MBAs. It is better than Atom but can't fight against Intel's premium CPUs, especially if we take Sandy Bridge into consideration. The IGP is wonderful though.

Llano will hopefully change this since Zacate is meant for netbook and other cheap laptops. Llano will hopefully bring low-voltage chips meant for ultraportables like MBA. So far there are no news though.

    http://www.anandtech.com/show/4023/the-brazos-performance-preview-amd-e350-benchmarked

But one must not overhype Llano because it still uses a Stars+ core. Bulldozer Fusion is not coming until next year.

    So, we'll see.

That is exactly what I envision for the next Mac Book Pro. Take a MacBook Air make it just thick enough to handle an additional 2.5" Hard Drive, dedicated graphics, and a high performance processor. Ditch the optical drive, make SSD+HD the standard configuration.

    This!

Please do not make a MBP line with carbon fiber (sooo 2008!). It looked ok then but now I'm just sick of it. I truly believe Apple has other plans for their Liquidmetal purchase, my guess is for future battery tech as described a few months ago. The optical drive is finished. All signs point to Apple getting rid of it and the sooner they do so, the better. The only foreseeable problem with the OP's suggestion is cost. Given the MB Air's price point, what happens to the prices in the MBP line?

100 mil might be a lot, but I think apple got its moneys worth, the got Creative of their back, they got a new accessory vendor, and they get to hold the pattent against other companies. I personally hope that more creative stuff becomes available for the mac, everyone seems to hate them but they make very good speakers, and their sound cards are very popular in the PC world amongst the gamers and even a few pro audio people. With so many products apple shouldnt leave a opportunity overlooked. :D

I hope that there will be a MacBook update- I ordered mine on the 24th and it said it would ship the 1st. I then got an email Monday telling me it would not ship until the 14th. Either I sm highly unlucky and they are way bhind or an update is in the works.

H.264 isn't really that much data.

The Wildlife 720p HD stream from Apple is less than 3000 kbits/sec. For comparison, the Pixlet demo is like 27 mbits/sec. A 1080p h.264 stream is less than 10 mbits/sec.

So with those numbers, a 720p stream with 5.1 audio should easily stream over even a 10 mbit network device. So I can easily see this working over 802.11g.

Now the only issue is what they are going to put in the device to decode the streams with. Forward compatibility with future codecs would be nice.

I really can't believe some of the posts that have been made here.

To suggest that the people of Africa deserve to be wiped out by aids as they haven't evolved or kept up with the rest of the world is beyond contempt. I want to say something else but I'm just totally lost for words by your comments.

Yet another person who apparently either does not know how to read, or chooses to only read a portion of a discussion...

Nobody in their right mind would ever say that anyone deserves to be wiped out by a disease because their lifestyle and culture are different. That's a completely asinine and foolish line of reasoning. If you read closely, you'd see that the discussion was over (1) whether it is our place to impose our will, our culture, and our system of education on a society that has opposed that very idea all along, and (2) whether that imposition, if it were even possible, would solve the problem, or if the problem is instead more deeply rooted in that culture as a whole and is beyond repair by education and contraception.

It's a perfectly valid, intelligent, and reasonable discussion. It has nothing to do with approving of genocide or allowing the spread of disease. It's far more important than that.

I notice no one has commented on the Pope and the Catholic Church forbidding the use of condoms and the effect that has on spreading infection even further.

Oh boy... the Catholic Church is WAY too easy of a target. We should probably leave that one alone.

True, the Pentium M (Mobil Centrino) was a hudge sucess for Intel! The Pentium D (Desktop) was a dual-core disaster, pushing the old "NetBurst" Pentium 4 past all safe design limits.

Core 2 is the all new rework that saved Intel!

Core 2 isn't "all new". It's an evolutionary design based on Core tho some parts are borrowed from other Intel designs (the Memory Disambiguation tech was originally designed for the unreleased, unlamented Tejas, for example).

Other changes include a full 128-bit path to the SSE registers, meaning that all SSE instructions can now complete in a single cycle, L2 shared cache instead of separate L2's per CPU, an extra integer unit, etc.

And, of course, the 64bit extensions :)

Sure, there's enough in the way of changes/additions to render it worthy of being considered a new microarch, but those changes are evolutionary.

Ironically enough, there's a direct line from Core 2 going all the way back to P6, whereas NetBurst really was "all new"!

I would love to have a red iPod, but I don't know why we would ever give money to help fight AIDS on a continent where the people take NO precautions to prevent themselves from getting AIDS... I mean, sure many children are born with it in Africa, but for soooo many adults, they could prevent the spread if they would just be monogamous.

So there, I solved AIDS for free, no Oprah, no Bono, no Ipods. Just have sex only within a lifetime committed relationship and AIDS is all but gone in one generation!

I'll stick to my black aluminum iPod nano, anyhow. I just hope 10% of the proceeds didn't go to research finding cures for the black plague... or frostbite...
Yeah those poor Africans. I wonder how all the people in America wit AIDS are getting it..

I think the big advantage to this downgrade will be buying clearance and refurbished Nvidia-based MBAs for 25% discounts... Unless Apple somehow fits a standard voltage SB CPU in the 13" MBA, I think most will be better off with C2D and Nvidia 320m at discounts.

    Thats what I'm thinking...hoping to grab a 13 at ~1000/1100 on Amazon.

Not trying to force this mentality on anyone, but for ME: No Ivy Bridge, no care.

I'm sure it'll be a great machine though just like the current one. It's just not enough difference to make me upgrade. (Just like iPad 1 to iPad 2)

As far as you're concerned maybe, but as far as what's common or not, you're out of it. There's a reason every laptop out there has some kind of external display connector.

But silly me, I must be a moron for using the mini display port right ?

You're doing it wrong. I plug in 4 cables. Power, Monitor, Speakers, USB. My keyboard/mouse/tablet/Printer/iPhone/iPod all get recognized instantly. That's what the USB hub on my desk is for. 1 cable, all devices.

If Apple had docks, it would be even better. Just drop the laptop in place and voila. But I guess docks just aren't esthetic enough.

There is nothing uncommon about it, so again, thank you for calling me stupid because I dare use a MBA as my only computer and I dare launch games on it, while connected to an external monitor of all things!

Keep your insults for yourself next time.
I kindly ask you to not put words in my mouth I've never written. I've never called you 'moron' or 'stupid' or using foul language about you. 'Keep your insults for yourself next time' is not a very kind thing to say, and I am actually wondering whether I should report you to the moderator.

Prior to the date being given out for the press event I was fully expecting a new MBP at Photokina.

However now given that it is on a Sunday I see no hope of an update. They wouldn't take down the store on a Sunday whereas the Apeture update will either be a free download or a preview of a 2.0 App therefore needing no major store changes.

PS Is there any precedence of hardware updates on a Sunday?

The device would not make a lot of sense by itself. There is more to this. Most people are waiting for a Media Center system. Sounds like the device would replace some cables that you can get for 40 bucks. I am refering to the cables that allow you to connect your Mac to the TV.
If you're like me, you don't have your Mac right next to your TV. Not only would I have to string a DVI/HDMI cable aaaall the way across the room, I would also have to get an equally long digital audio cable. Probably end up costing about the same as a video AirPort Express (if they keep the prices the same) but with the added hassle of getting those cables across the room.

This would be a lot less expensive than buying a Mac mini, especially if you already have a powerful desktop just waiting to play some HD videos...

At least this is entertaining to watch.

Microsoft aren't selling windows called Windows, they're selling an OS called Windows. It is a generic phrase, but it's not a generic phrase for the object it describes. App Store is (to me at least!) a generic phrase for an application store.
And Apple has a online software store called the 'App Store'.

It may seem silly at first, but view the history of 'app' and the argument materializes.

DailyTech reports (http://www.dailytech.com/article.aspx?newsid=3228) that the Non-Disclosure for performance benchmarks on Intel's upcoming Intel Core 2 Duo and Core 2 Extreme processors was lifted today. The new processors, code named Conroe, are the desktop versions of the Core Duo processors which currently reside in Apple's MacBook, MacBook Pro and iMac computers.

Core 2 Duo and Core 2 Extreme processors have a plethora of new features including Intel Wide Dynamic Execution, Intel Smart Memory Access, Intel Advanced Smart Cache and Intel Advanced Digital Media Boost.

The Core 2 Duo and Core 2 Extreme could make their Mac debut in Apple's PowerMac computers which are rumored to be released on August 7th 2006 at the World Wide Developers Conference.

Intel is expected to start shipping the new processors on July 23rd with an official announcement on July 27th. The Core 2 Duo will have clock speeds of 1.86GHz, 2.13GHz, 2.4GHz and 2.67GHz while the Core 2 Extreme will clock in at 2.93GHz. All share a 1066MHz front side bus with between 2-4MB of L2 cache. Pricing for the chips range from $183 to $999 per chip.

As mentioned above, a number of benchmarks of the new chips have been released today, with DailyTech providing a roundup (http://www.dailytech.com/article.aspx?newsid=3319) of many reviews.

    http://images.macrumors.com/article/2011/03/22/140815-imacs_2010.jpg

As tracked in our Buyer's Guide (http://www.macrumors.com/buyersguide/#iMac), the iMac has reached its average update interval, suggesting that we might be able to expect refreshed models to appear some time in the relatively near future. Expectations for revamped iMacs include a move to Sandy Bridge processors and implementation of the new Thunderbolt connectivity standard that debuted in the MacBook Pro last month.

In a series of Tweets (via MacNews.de (http://www.macnews.de/mac/imac-update-teil-2-mai-thunderbolt-sandy-bridge-160029)), CNET's Brian Tong claims (http://twitter.com/brian_tong/status/50234343263707136) to have received word from a reliable source (http://twitter.com/brian_tong/status/50234696809984000) that new iMacs should debut in late April or early May. The updated iMacs are said (http://twitter.com/brian_tong/status/50234522251444224) to feature Sandy Bridge and Thunderbolt as expected, but no major cosmetic changes are reported to be included.iMac rumors have been relatively sparse in recent months, although DigiTimes indicated (http://www.macrumors.com/2010/12/15/imac-and-macbook-pro-upgrades-in-first-half-of-2011/) in mid-December that Apple was expected to update both the MacBook Pro and iMac in the first half of 2011 with the iMac featuring a new panel size and price points. Just days before the MacBook Pro update in late February, DigiTimes reiterated its claim (http://www.macrumors.com/2011/02/22/apple-to-update-imac-alongside-or-soon-after-macbook-pro/) that may change the screen size on new iMacs, claiming that the new models could debut alongside or soon after the MacBook Pros.

Article Link: Potential iMac Update to Sandy Bridge and Thunderbolt in 4-6 Weeks? (http://www.macrumors.com/2011/03/22/potential-imac-update-to-sandy-bridge-and-thunderbolt-in-4-6-weeks/)

More surprising than this rumor is the fact that it's the first actual MAC rumor (beyond "we've found that the Early 2011 MacBook Pros have quirks" posts) in weeks. None of that is surprising though. I wonder if there will be any surprises with this refresh? I'm guessing no Blu-Ray, which means I'm not buying one. Though I'm still curious as to what'll be under the hood.

Awesome. I want a current MBA, but they're a tad too much right now. This will lower those prices.

I don't see why this will it make cheaper. Beside MBA price lowered drastically from the previous iteration and had good sales recently because of it - so, don't hope too much about it.

I'm happy for newcomers if they will get a SB MBA. I'm still set for an Ivy MBA :)
