I was wondering why so many people are so opposed to Apple offering Blu-Ray as a BTO option. I have read where Steve Jobs spoke negatively about Blu-Ray, I wonder if these same people would be all gung-ho for BR if Jobs had spoken positively about it?
This is true; a lot of people will side with Jobs/Apple without understanding the issue. However, I think that there are valid reasons for the current Blu-Ray issue as I understand it. I think to allow playback of Blu-Ray content, Apple is forced to lock down certain aspects of software (apparently at kernel level?) and it's a hard-sell, I guess.

Unlikely - this would require the new private key be embedded in the firmware update package, which would defeat the purpose of replacing the old key.
This is a fundamental issue with DRM solutions - you, as the consumer, have to hold the private key. They (Apple) can obfuscate where that key is, but in the end it has to be accessible in some manner. It's the same thing with iTunes DRM. If someone cares enough, they can almost certainly retrieve the private key (which is how Requiem works).
I'm guessing Apple may make some half-hearted move or another; but I doubt they care all that much.
What could they loose, but I know there be more demand for apple products if more companies jump on the band wagon. Like TV with Airplay built in, nice. :D

Am hoping they release some mbp info today. I was waiting for WWDC, that came and went, I went off on my holidays for a few weeks and came back hoping for an announcement and still nothing. Have been waiting a while to get one but I hate getting something new only to have it upgraded almost immediately afterwards. A laptop needs to last me 3 years so I expect it to go out of date, just not the week after I buy it :p

Whether the iPhone, if/on release, is in two models (similar to the nano/video relationship) or not, here's a mockup I've just created, depicting what I would expect of the device at the moment.
I don't usually do mock-ups (this is in fact my first one) but with all the numpad/touchscreen/slide-down ideas in the works, I wanted to show a solution which is based very much on what we have right now. It would make sense that the devices would sit snugly in line with Apple's other mobile products.

No, it doesn't. This is for phones like the ROKR and some other recent Motorolas that run a version of iTunes.
BTW this probably explains the nano firmware "revelation" too, we're probably looking at several applications (iPod, nano, ROKR, and other firmware) built from the same code base.

I don't think that there's any data yet on failure rates and problems with the new Core 2 iMacs...

There's no chance apple is releasing MBP's tomorrow. There are too many things pointing towards early/mid-Sept.
There's no question that apple will not *ship* merom machines tomorrow. But there's nothing stopping them from making the announcement and taking preorders.

Perfect, just the news I've been waiting for. Currently have an Early-2008 model which I purchased in September just in need of a bit more power really! Also welcoming the extra USB ports and built in SD reader, Thunderbolt on the newer ones will be nice for an external HDD!
The built-in optical drive on my iMac seems broken too, keeps spitting out disks! :(

I'd agree. But unless someone is actually targeting you, you will get lost in the sheer amount of data. Google stores data about you, but they also store data about billions other.
That doesn't mean that people would end up in trouble because of security breaches, but it's a lot like people winning on the lottery. Some do, but most don't.

Because its **** as it doesn't have straightforward unit conversions and because everyone else in the world other than the US (and for a small number of things the UK) uses metric.I use metric feet.

Physically, compared to the 27, it's not much smaller due to the aspect ratio. The resolution on the 27 is the only real improvement.
I recall when the 21.5 and 27's came out and people were up in arms for Apple going to 16:9 displays when they had traditionally stayed with 'regular' PC resolutions.

Yeah it already lets you watch while downloading and frankly I think that this is a very important feature that is not often discussed. People bash it saying that it takes 1.5 hours to download a movie. Well if the movie is 1.5 hours long than wait 5 minutes and start watching. It is close to instant. I know that on my computer it only took 70 minutes to download which means I can start watching it right away. With Verizon rolling out their Fios internet with speeds of up to 30mbs even 1080p will soon be no problem. I am not sure just how big a 1080p movie is but I am hoping that within a year it will be do able for more people.

I think the fact that Microsoft is spending so much money to fight the trademark so they can use it rather than just coming up with their own name (after all that would be much cheaper) says they don't think it's generic.
If it was generic, the name wouldn't have so much marketing power that Microsoft is willing to spend this much money so they can use it too... Microsoft obviously feels that the marketing power of being able to use that name will draw enough users in to make up for the money they are paying to fight Apple claiming no one else can use it. Otherwise, they'd feel it was not worth all that money to spend rather than just getting one of their employees to come up with a name or even a simple contest amongst employees (or even the public) with a reward (That most likely would be cheaper than the lawyers) for who picks the winning name.

Well, if Steve wants to shun Europe, ok. However, these yes, no, maybe games are utterly unbecoming of a company like Apple. Not untypical but out of place. The main representatives not being able to say when and where they'll show isn't very reassuring.
